HIFU or Ultherapy in Ho Chi Minh City: Which Should You Choose?

Almost everyone researching non-surgical skin tightening in Ho Chi Minh City ends up at the same question: HIFU or Ultherapy? This page is not a spec sheet — the technical comparison is already covered in our article on the key differences between Ultraformer MPT and Ultherapy. Here we look at the practical side: for your face, your goals and your budget in Saigon, which option makes more sense — and how to choose a clinic you can trust.

The short answer: choose by your face and budget, not by brand name

No single technology suits everyone. Both HIFU and Ultherapy use focused ultrasound to reach the deeper layers of tissue, and both aim for the same thing: firmer skin and a more defined facial contour. In practice, the difference comes down to three everyday questions:

  • Which area do you want to improve? A small target like the jawline is a very different plan from full face and neck.

  • How much are you prepared to invest? This is the biggest gap between the two options.

  • What matters more to you? Seeing the tissue on screen while the treatment is performed, or having multiple depths that can be tailored area by area.

Answer those three questions honestly and most of the indecision disappears — before you even get to device names.

The third one — whether seeing the tissue on screen is worth paying extra for — gets a full answer in our article on what real-time imaging actually changes for you.

How the two options actually differ in Ho Chi Minh City

On paper they are two technologies. On the Saigon market they are two very different situations.

Ultherapy is a proprietary system from a single manufacturer. The devices are imported, only a limited number of clinics in Ho Chi Minh City own a genuine unit, and the upfront cost is high — which shows directly in the treatment price. With Ultherapy, the most important question is: does this clinic have a genuine machine?

HIFU is the opposite. HIFU is a generic name for a whole family of technologies, not one machine. Two price lists that both say “HIFU” may be describing very different devices — different manufacturers, different generations, different numbers of cartridge depths and very different precision in how energy is delivered. With HIFU, the most important question is: which machine does this clinic use?

This is exactly why HIFU prices in Ho Chi Minh City can vary several times over, while Ultherapy prices are fairly uniform at the high end.

Cost: realistic price ranges and why they vary so much

At Hugo Beauty, HIFU with Ultraformer MPT is priced by area and by the number of shots you actually receive:

  • Chin and double chin area (250–300 shots): 1,500,000 – 2,000,000 VND

  • Jawline contouring (250–300 shots): 1,500,000 – 2,000,000 VND

  • Full-face skin firming (800–1,000 shots): 4,000,000 – 4,500,000 VND

  • Full face and neck with double chin reduction (1,200–1,300 shots): 5,000,000 – 5,500,000 VND

The full breakdown is on our HIFU pricing page for Ho Chi Minh City.

Not sure whether 300 shots is a lot, or how an Ultherapy line compares with a HIFU shot? See how to read a HIFU or Ultherapy price quote.

And Ultherapy? Because it is a proprietary system with expensive equipment and transducers, a single Ultherapy session usually costs considerably more than HIFU. Hugo Beauty does not offer Ultherapy, so we will not quote a figure — ask a clinic with a genuine device directly, and ask for the number of lines or shots rather than just a package price.

Three things drive the price gap, whether it is HIFU or Ultherapy:

  1. Where the device and cartridges come from. Genuine cartridges have a shot counter and an expiry date. This is the largest cost — and the easiest one to cut corners on.

  2. How many shots you actually receive. At the same price, 200 shots and 300 shots are two different sessions. That number should be agreed before you start.

  3. Who performs the treatment. On the same machine, the way areas are mapped and depths are chosen decides the final result.

Four questions to answer before you choose

You do not need to understand the engineering to choose well. You only need to be clear about yourself:

  1. Which area matters most to me? If your only concern is the jawline or the area under the chin, a focused plan makes more sense for both results and cost.

  2. Is my skin mildly lax or clearly sagging? Focused ultrasound works best in the early stage, when skin is starting to lose firmness but has not dropped significantly.

  3. When do I need to see a change? Results develop over weeks and months, so if you have a date in mind — a wedding, a trip home — count backwards from it.

  4. Do I want a one-off session or a maintenance plan? The answer changes how your budget should be spread.

If you are unsure about question 2, that is the moment to read who is suitable for HIFU or book a skin assessment to be evaluated in person.

When Ultraformer MPT makes more sense — and when to consider Ultherapy

Both are serious options. What matters is knowing which advantage you are paying for.

Ultraformer MPT is usually the better fit when:

  • You want a plan split across several areas with different depths, rather than one fixed protocol.

  • You want to start at a moderate investment and adjust step by step.

  • You prefer subtle, natural refinement of your contours rather than a dramatic immediate change.

Ultherapy is worth considering when:

  • You place particular value on seeing the tissue layers on screen before energy is delivered.

  • You prefer a system with strong brand recognition and are comfortable with the investment that goes with it.

If you are in the second group, we will say it plainly: Hugo Beauty does not have an Ultherapy device, and you should look for a clinic with a genuine machine rather than settle for a substitute because it is convenient. And if your real question is ultrasound versus radiofrequency, our HIFU vs Thermage FLX comparison will serve you better.

How to check a clinic before you book

These five questions apply to HIFU and Ultherapy alike, and you can ask all of them by message before you visit:

  1. What is the full name of the machine, who makes it and in which country? The answer should be a specific name, not “a Korean machine” or “an imported device”.

  2. How many shots will my session include, and where is that written? The number should be agreed and recorded before you start.

  3. How many shots are left on the cartridge you will use on me? Genuine cartridges show a counter — you are entitled to see it.

  4. Who will actually perform the treatment? It should be the person who consulted you, not someone else at the last minute.

  5. Are the before-and-after photos real clients of this clinic? Genuine photos share the same angle and lighting and are not retouched.

A transparent clinic can answer all five without hesitation.

What Hugo Beauty uses — and what we do not

We use HIFU Ultraformer MPT by CLASSYS (Korea), with genuine cartridges and a shot count agreed with each client before every session. You can read more about the Ultraformer MPT device at our Phu Nhuan studio or our HIFU face lifting service in Ho Chi Minh City.

Hugo Beauty does not offer Ultherapy. We say this upfront so you do not waste your time — and so you know that when we compare the two technologies, it is not a sales pitch.

Hugo Beauty is a small boutique aesthetic studio in Cau Kieu Ward (formerly Phu Nhuan District), a short drive from Tan Son Nhat Airport and the city centre. Founder Pham Thuy Kieu — Aesthetic & Skincare Specialist — consults with you and performs the entire session herself; you are never handed over mid-treatment.

What a consultation looks like

  1. Skin assessment by area. We identify where firmness is clearly lost and where no intervention is needed yet.

  2. Agreeing on priority areas and shot count. You know in advance how many shots go where, and what it costs.

  3. The session. Around 30–60 minutes depending on the scope, with no downtime.

  4. Aftercare guidance. Specific instructions for the first few days and for the maintenance phase.

If, after the assessment, HIFU is not the right choice for you at this point, Kieu will say so and suggest another direction — even if that means you do not book today.

To make that first assessment as accurate as possible, see how to prepare for a HIFU session — what to stop the week before and what to bring.

Real results at Hugo Beauty

We photograph before and after at the same angle, in the same light, with no filters and no reshaping. You can see our HIFU before-and-after gallery and judge for yourself what this technology realistically delivers — rather than relying on advertising images.

One thing to keep in mind: focused ultrasound supports firmness and contour. It does not change bone structure and it is not a substitute for a surgical facelift.

As for what happens afterwards — swelling, redness, tingling or the hollow-cheek worry — we explain it honestly in our guide to HIFU and Ultherapy side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there many clinics in Ho Chi Minh City offering genuine Ultherapy?

Far fewer than the number advertising it. If you choose Ultherapy, ask for the full name of the system, the authorised distributor in Vietnam, and to see the transducer before the session begins.

Does Hugo Beauty offer Ultherapy?

No. Hugo Beauty uses only HIFU Ultraformer MPT by CLASSYS. We do not offer Ultherapy and we do not present any other device under that name.

Why do HIFU prices in Saigon vary so much when it is all called HIFU?

Because HIFU is a generic name for a family of technologies. The difference lies in the manufacturer, the generation of the machine, genuine cartridges and the number of shots you actually receive. A 200-shot session on an unbranded machine and a 300-shot session on a genuine device are two very different things, even though both are called HIFU.

With a budget of around 2,000,000 VND, which option should I choose?

At that level, a plan focused on one area — the jawline, the double chin or the cheeks — usually makes more sense than spreading it thinly across the whole face. You will see a clearer change exactly where it matters most to you.

I had Ultherapy before. Can I switch to HIFU Ultraformer MPT?

Yes, but give your skin enough time to settle, and tell us during the consultation when and where you were treated and how you felt afterwards. That information helps us build a more suitable plan. We usually recommend at least 6 months since your last Ultherapy session — the full timeline is in HIFU after Ultherapy, filler, Botox or threads.

Should I book a consultation first or just walk in?

Book first. Hugo Beauty works by private appointment so you have enough time for a skin assessment and a proper discussion, without waiting.
