Which Is Better for Sagging Skin and a Sagging Jawline?

The reason is depth: the deep support layer of the face is what holds the contour, and HIFU is designed to reach it. Radiofrequency works above that layer.
For skin that is not really falling but has lost its snap, a crepey texture on the cheeks, fine looseness across the whole face, skin that looks thinner than it used to, Thermage FLX is often the better-matched choice, because it works across an area rather than at depth.
A quick way to tell which group you are in. Look in a mirror, then tilt your chin down slightly. If what you dislike is the outline of your face, that is a contour concern and points towards HIFU. If what you dislike is the surface of the skin regardless of the outline, that points towards radiofrequency.
Two honest limits. First, if the looseness is significant and there is real excess skin, neither one will match what surgery does. Second, if a large part of what you see is volume loss rather than looseness, firming the skin will not put the volume back. Two things matter more than the combination itself: how far apart, and in what order.
How far apart. Neither manufacturer publishes an official rule for spacing one against the other, so what exists is practice rather than a protocol. Studios that offer both typically leave three to four weeks between the two, so the skin can respond to one source of energy before the next arrives. Doing both in the same week adds sensitivity without adding benefit. It is also worth knowing the spacing each one keeps with itself: Thermage FLX is presented as a single-session service repeated roughly every one to two years, and we space HIFU sessions about 12 to 18 months apart. In most cases the realistic plan is one now and the other later, not both at once.
In what order. Where both are planned, the usual sequence is the deeper work first and the surface work after: HIFU on the deep support layer, then radiofrequency on the more superficial layers. There is a practical reason as well as a technical one. Once the outline of the face improves, people frequently find the surface concern bothers them less than they expected, and the second service turns out not to be needed.
Since we do not have a Thermage device at the studio, we cannot do both under one roof. What we can do is be straightforward at the consultation: if what you want is mostly surface quality, we will tell you that HIFU is not the most direct route for it.
