When to Start Bikini Laser Hair Removal Before a Wedding or Beach Trip
Count back from your big date to see when bikini laser should start.
“I'm going to Phu Quoc next month. Is it too late to start bikini laser?” We get this message almost every week, especially before wedding season and long holidays.
The answer depends on one thing: laser needs time, because hair grows in cycles. This guide helps you count back from your big date, so you know when to start and what to expect. Prices and session packages are on our bikini laser hair removal page.
Why you can't rush it
A laser only works on hairs in their active growth phase. At any moment only part of your hair is in that phase, so sessions need to be 4–6 weeks apart to catch the next group. Coming back sooner does not speed things up.
The bikini area usually needs 6–10 sessions. That means a full course takes around 6 to 12 months.
9–12 months to go: the ideal window
This is enough time to finish almost the whole course. By the wedding day, bikini hair is clearly reduced and you will hardly need to shave before the honeymoon.
Tip: book your first session as early as you can, and book the next one right after each visit, so the busy months of wedding planning don't break your rhythm.
About 6 months to go: still a clear difference
You can fit in 4–5 sessions. Many clients notice thinner, slower hair from the third or fourth session. You may still want a light shave before the big day, but hair will be finer, less stubbly and less likely to grow in.
After the event, simply continue the remaining sessions on schedule.
About 3 months to go: start, but keep expectations realistic
Three months gives you 2–3 sessions. Hair starts to thin, but not enough to put the razor away. It is still a good time to start if you want long-term results. Just know your date will fall in the middle of the course.
Less than a month to go: don't start just for the event
One session won't make a big difference, and the second week after a session is when the hairs from that session shed. With only a few weeks left, a careful shave is the simplest option. Start your course after the trip, once your skin is out of the sun.
One more thing: if you plan to start laser in the next few months, don't wax for the event. Waxing removes the root, and you would need to wait 4 weeks before laser can work.
How long before the event should the last session be?
Leave at least 2 weeks, because:
Skin can be a little red for the first few days.
Hairs from that session shed around the second week.
After a session you should avoid pools, saunas and strong sun for a while.
For beach trips this matters even more, since skin fresh from a session should not go straight into strong sun.
After the beach: when can I come back?
If you come home tanned or sunburnt, wait about 2 weeks for your skin to settle before the next session. Tanned skin raises the risk of irritation, and your specialist may have to lower the energy, which makes that session less effective.
During the trip, put sunscreen on exposed skin around the bikini line and change out of wet swimwear early. In Vietnam's heat and humidity, damp fabric irritates skin faster.
What to do between sessions
Shaving is fine any time, and you should shave 12–24 hours before each session.
No waxing, plucking or threading during the course.
If your skin reacts easily, skip hair removal creams before the event. A clean razor is enough.
For the first few days after each session, see our guide to skin care after laser hair removal.
Quick planning table
| Time left | Sessions possible | On the day |
|---|---|---|
| 9–12 months | 6–10 | Nearly done, little or no shaving |
| About 6 months | 4–5 | Clearly thinner, maybe a light shave |
| About 3 months | 2–3 | Starting to thin, still shaving |
| Under 1 month | 0–1 | Shave, start laser after the event |
Real session numbers depend on your hair and how regularly you can come.
In short
If you have a big date coming up, count back and start as early as you can, with your last session at least 2 weeks before. Prices and session packages are on our bikini laser hair removal page. Still unsure about safety? Read is bikini laser hair removal safe?
Frequently Asked Questions
My wedding is in one month. Should I start bikini laser now?
Not just for the wedding. One session won't show a clear difference, and hairs shed during the second week. Shave carefully for the day and start the course after your honeymoon.
How long before a beach trip should my last session be?
At least 2 weeks, so any redness is gone, hairs from the last session have shed, and your skin doesn't go into strong sun right after a session.
I came back from the beach with a tan. When can I continue?
Wait about 2 weeks for your skin to settle, and tell your specialist about the trip so she can check your skin before the session.
