What Happens at a HIFU Consultation in Ho Chi Minh City: The 15 Minutes Before Any Session

Many people delay a consultation because of three worries. They fear being pushed into a session on the same day. They fear it will take half a day. And they fear that the person who advises them is not the person who will hold the device. This article describes what actually happens in the first fifteen minutes at Hugo Beauty, so you can arrive relaxed and with clear questions.

The consultation is free. There is no deposit, and you are not expected to book a session at the end. If you want to know how to send the first message, the HIFU consultation booking page has a message template ready to copy.

A consultation and a session are two different visits

In a HIFU session you lie down, numbing cream is applied, and the handpiece moves over your skin. A consultation happens before that, and its purpose is the opposite: nobody touches the machine. Kieu looks, touches with her fingers, and asks questions. At the end you can simply say thank you and leave.

Hugo Beauty keeps these two visits separate for a simple reason. The decision to have HIFU should be made when you know which areas, how many shots, what it costs and why. It should not be made while you are lying on the bed with cream on your face.

Before you arrive: what Kieu has already read

Most clients write on WhatsApp first. That message is not lost. Kieu reads it again before your appointment, looks at the three photos you sent, one front view and two side profiles, and already has a first idea of which areas to consider.

This is why the visit is usually shorter than expected. Most of the time is used to confirm or adjust what the photos suggested, not to start from zero. For visitors who are planning a trip to Saigon, this also means most of the thinking can be done before you fly. Send the photos a few days ahead and allow for the time difference. Kieu replies in English on WhatsApp.

A skin check in daylight: cheeks, jawline, under the chin and neck

Kieu does not use a magnifying lamp. You sit next to a window in daylight, with no ceiling light pointing down. Light from above creates a shadow under the chin and makes any fullness look heavier than it is.

Four areas are looked at in order. The cheeks: is the tissue still full or already hollow, and are the lines beside the nose caused by the cheek moving down or by a fold that has been there for years. The jawline: is the line from the ear to the chin still continuous, or does it break at the angle of the jaw. Under the chin: is the fullness mostly fat or mostly loose skin. These two look the same in a photo but need two different shot plans. The neck: are there horizontal lines, and do they deepen when you look down at a phone.

You will be asked to smile, frown and lower your head a few times. This is not a test. It separates loose skin from movement caused by muscles.

The tissue test: why fingers decide more than your age

After looking, Kieu gently pinches and presses the cheeks, the angle of the jaw and the area under the chin. This is the step most people do not expect, and it is the most important one of the visit.

Two clients who are both forty-two can have completely different tissue. One has full cheeks and thick tissue. The other is slim, with thin skin close to the bone. With the same number of shots and the same cartridge, these two people would get two different results. The slim client could also risk hollow cheeks if the deep cartridge is used in the same way.

So the cartridge depth and the shot count for each area are decided after touching, not after asking your age. If you want to understand why thick or thin tissue changes the way the energy works in the skin, the HIFU Guide explains the mechanism in plain language. The consultation only applies that explanation to your own face.

The person who advises you is the person who holds the device

In many places the consultant and the operator are two different people. You hear a plan at the front desk, then you go into the room and meet someone who has never looked closely at your face. At Hugo Beauty, the person sitting in front of you during the consultation is the same person who will move the handpiece over your skin.

This changes the consultation in two ways. First, every number that is said out loud is a number that same person has to deliver, so the shot count is stated accurately from the start. Second, when Kieu says that one area can wait for a later visit, she is declining part of her own income. She is not a salesperson working on commission.

During the visit you will be asked a few questions about what you have done to your face in the last six to twelve months, and about medication and the current state of your skin. You can prepare those answers in advance. The guide on how to prepare for HIFU lists them in full, so they are not repeated here.

The three answers you leave with, and when the answer is "not yet"

At the end of the consultation you receive three direct answers: which areas, how many shots for each area, and the total cost according to the public price list. There is no "it depends" and no vague range to guess about at home.

Sometimes the answer is "not yet". This happens when the skin is still firm and there is nothing to correct, when the fullness under the chin is mostly fat and HIFU would help only a little, or when you had another service recently and need to wait. If you want to know in advance which cases are not a good match, the article on who should not get HIFU lists them in full. In the consultation, Kieu only covers the part that applies to you.

Can you have the session on the same visit, and why Kieu sometimes asks you to come back

Yes, if three things are true at the same time. You have already discussed the plan on WhatsApp, so nothing is a surprise. Your skin has no reason to wait. And the schedule that day has enough time for both the numbing cream and the session. Many visitors to Ho Chi Minh City choose this option so they only need one trip to the studio. If you are unsure how it feels, the article on whether HIFU hurts describes it honestly.

Kieu asks you to come back when the skin is irritated, when you had laser or HA injections recently, or simply when you want more time to think. No deposit is taken to hold a slot, and nobody pushes for a decision on the day. The result of HIFU becomes clearer over eight to twelve weeks, so waiting a few days to choose the right areas makes almost no difference to where you end up.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a HIFU consultation at Hugo Beauty take, and is there a fee?

About fifteen minutes, and it is free. No deposit is required and you do not need to decide during the visit. If you have already sent photos on WhatsApp, the visit is usually even shorter because Kieu has a first idea before you arrive.

Should I remove my makeup before the consultation?

Please come with clean skin or light makeup only. A heavy base hides uneven tone and the small folds at the cheeks and jawline, and the skin check becomes less accurate. If you decide to have the session on the same visit, the studio removes your makeup before the numbing cream.

Is it a problem if I do not book a session after the consultation?

No. The plan Kieu gives you, meaning the areas, the shot count and the cost, stays the same while you think about it. You can ask follow-up questions on WhatsApp as many times as you like before you book.

Not sure which areas apply to you? Send a message on WhatsApp describing what you would like to improve, with three photos if possible. Kieu replies before you decide to come to the studio.
