How Far Before a Wedding or Big Event Should You Have HIFU?
Short answer: book the session 8–12 weeks before the date. HIFU builds over 8–12 weeks and the result is clearest at month 2–3, so a session two weeks before a wedding gives you the tight feeling of the first fortnight, not the actual result. With less than two weeks to go, it is better to book for after the event.
Why 8–12 weeks, not one or two
Right after the session and for the first 1–2 weeks the skin feels slightly tighter as old collagen contracts. That is an immediate reaction, not the result.
The real change builds gradually over the following 8–12 weeks as new collagen forms, and it is clearest at month 2–3. Counting back from the date you care about, the session belongs roughly 56 to 84 days earlier.
Going earlier than 12 weeks is not a problem either: one session typically holds for 12–18 months, so you would simply pass the peak a little before the day.
The countdown
The table below turns that into a checklist you can plan around.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| 12 weeks before | Earliest sensible booking, and the most comfortable one: it leaves room for a week-2 check and a change of plan if needed |
| 8 weeks before | The last date that still lands the clearest result on the day itself |
| 7 days before the session | Stop retinol and AHA/BHA; no physical exfoliation in the last three days |
| The first 72 hours after | No sauna, steam room, hot baths or swimming; light gym after 24 hours, heavy training after 48 |
| 2 weeks before the event | Too late for a first HIFU session — plan it for after the date instead |
| The week of the event | Hydration, sun protection and sleep; nothing new on the skin |
If you only have 4–6 weeks
You can still have the session. At 4–6 weeks the new collagen has started to form, so the outline usually looks a little cleaner on the day, and the clearest part arrives a few weeks after the event.
What does not work is pushing the energy higher or adding shots to speed things up. That does not shorten collagen biology; it only raises the risk of prolonged numbness and, on a face with little soft tissue, a hollower look.
With less than two weeks to go, book for after the event. A few people stay slightly red or puffy for a couple of days, and more importantly you would be paying for a result that arrives too late to be seen on the day.
Three situations we see often
A first HIFU session: aim for 10–12 weeks out. That leaves room to retake photos at week 2 and adjust the plan for a second area if needed.
A repeat session 12–18 months after the last one: 8–10 weeks is enough, and the plan is usually narrower than the first time — often just the jawline or the under-chin.
Flying in for the event: leave a few days between a long flight and the session, and keep the first 72 hours as they are — no sauna, no very hot showers, no heavy training.
What not to do in a rush
Do not stack HIFU with laser, peels or microneedling on the same area in the same week; those need about two weeks apart and skin that has fully recovered.
Do not have HA filler immediately before HIFU on the same area. If you have had filler, the usual wait is 4 weeks for a small amount and 6–8 weeks for a larger or deeply placed one.
Do not expand the plan to "more areas while I am here" because a date is coming. The scope should follow the tissue, not the calendar.
Frequently asked questions
How long before a wedding should I have HIFU?
Eight to twelve weeks before the date. The result is clearest at month 2–3, so that window puts the peak on the day itself.
Is one month before enough?
Partly. At 4–6 weeks the outline usually looks a little cleaner, with the clearest part arriving after the event. Do not raise the energy to speed it up.
What if my event is in two weeks?
Book for after it. In the last fortnight the useful things are hydration, sun protection and sleep — not a new treatment.
Can I have HIFU after a long flight?
Yes, but leave a few days between the flight and the session, and keep the first 72 hours free of sauna, very hot showers and heavy training.
Will anyone be able to tell I had something done?
Not in the way an injectable shows. The face reads rested and the jawline reads cleaner; there is no sudden change on the day of the session itself.
